Among the Kachin (Malaysia)

I spent a few days among the Kachin. Not in their native lands in northern Burma, but in Kuala Lumpur.

There is some Kachin food in the Bukit Bintang neighborhood, and the people assemble here.

This cart has become the meeting place of Kachin people. The woman and another man preparing the food came sometimes to chat with me. They showed me their place on a Google map. We talked of the snowy mountains near the borders. They seemed so happy when they reminisced about their home.

I have been up to Shan state (south of Kachin) in Burma, and across the border in Yunnan, but not up to Kachin. Someday. Until then, I will return to this cart and talk to the owners a bit more.

Sunday is church day. The ladies make one final tuck and check the fitting of the lyongi before they enter the main street.
